Success and Backgammon Free Rolls
In backgammon, one of the best things you can do in your strategy is to maximize free rolls. The reason being that as the object of backgammon is to get your checkers around the board and beared off, backgammon free rolls increase your moves while keeping your opponent unable to advance.
The best way to get backgammon free rolls is through a priming strategy that revolves around anchoring points, creating walls of checkers, and looking to hit your opponent’s vulnerable checkers. By preventing your opponent from moving or by hitting their checkers you will stop their play and gain more backgammon free rolls.
The priming strategy is my favorite way to play backgammon. It makes for longer games, but it really allows me to control how the game progresses. A lot of players like a fast paced game, which is fine with me. Since I start my game from my opponent’s home board, it’s easy for me to create walls and a strong defense from fast advancing checkers. I like to let them move quickly and think they’re getting ahead of me and then I look for solitary checkers being left unguarded. I attack and hit them, stopping my opponent and putting him in a position to roll his checker onto the board which most times gives me for backgammon free rolls where I can continue to anchor points or, if I’m in position, change to a running game and overwhelm my opponent. It’s a great strategy and one well worth mastering if you are going to have a successful backgammon game.
